Luna's Starry Night by Muffyn-Man Luna's Starry Night by Muffyn-Man
I was going to release this after Las Pegasus Unicon, and after it gets signed by Tabitha St. Germain, but the story to getting her signature on here was too heartbreaking to put here on the description.

If you've been watching me you know that I've been trying to post a Luna deviation for some time now, but after the first attempt I wasn't pleased with the her line-work. I later got the idea of using a similar pose to the FF6 summon, Fenrir (Google image search if you don't know). Then, I didn't know what else to do for background, until I saw "Sleepless in Ponyville". Now what connection can I make to her about being in a dream? If I could do that, Im pretty sure I can tie the whole picture together. Hmmmmmmmm...

Materials list: Copic Markers, Copic Multiliner, and Acrylic Paint on Bristol Board.

* Because I forgot to mention this on Luna's description, here's a link to my depiction of her sister: [link]
Hope you give her as much love as Luna

This would be the painting Luna would get lost in.

Thanks, I felt that Starry Night was almost a reflection of Luna in a way when I made it.

Don't quite know what you mean by shading. Are you referring to the shading on Luna's Body and Hair, or are you referring to the background? Either way, I guess the simplest answer would be the materials that I used. All of my color pony pictures are done with Copic marker and acrylic paint. (If you watch CutieArtCrusaders on youtube, the markers are the same ones that Frostykat uses.) The markers are very good at blending depending on the paper that you use, but they aren't perfect. To fix the sharpness or lack of specific colors to use, I switch to acrylic paint .

I know this was quite the long winded comment, but I felt that I the question was a little vague, so I hope I answered it somehow. Thanks for showing interest in my work.

There is no other Van Gogh, other than the real Van Gogh. We are all just paying homage to his contribution to the world of art.

Thanks for the comment though.

Don't know if you're into Doctor Who, but I just saw that episode where they meet van Gogh, who's convinced that all of his works are worthless and that he's a terrible artist. And at the end they take him into our times to show him just how admired and famous he becomes.
That moment is just so beautiful... I teared up. I love van Gogh. And that's why I thought of this work again. I've seen it before but I don't know if I left a comment before... if not, this is beautiful. Brilliant job, you blended MLP and van Gogh's style perfectly. Definitely one of my favorite fanarts! :)

I do believe you have, since your icon does seem pretty familiar to me.

Im glad to see that my work touched you the way that I hoped it would. I actually didn't watch the Van Gogh episode of Dr. Who until after I posted the piece when another watcher left it in the comments. I was taking a big risk with this piece since I finished the linework without planning out the background right away. I was going to do a Luna/Nightmare moon piece originally, but then I looked back at the artists that I've studied in my Modern Art History class in college. I couldn't help but notice the similarities between Luna's character and Van Gogh as an artist. After that, I knew what I wanted to do with Luna.

I covered it in the other comment. It's mainly these constant depictions of Luna in a negative light. Art for her is getting really cliched as well though the average art for her had been heading slowly downhill over this past year. I need to do some checks and see if that's still the case.

It actually does. I can't sell fanart as a print, as far as Ive seen on here. It never allows me to sell whenever the category is fanart. The only way I can is if someone else requests it.

Thank you. That's what everyone is saying so far.

Wish I had a person tell me Im doing something wrong here, and scald me for potentially commercially exploiting a famous artist who's tormented life resulted in one of the most iconic expressions of avant guard, even to this day.

but alas, we can't all have what we want.
